Poonch : Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma Monday chaired a comprehensive meeting to review the preparations for the Independence Day 2026 celebrations.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Shafket Hussain Bhat; Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik, besides officers from the district administration and police departments.
The meeting focused on ensuring well-coordinated, timely and the best arrangements for the celebration of the national event.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation, outlining the departmental responsibilities and the current status of preparations.
The Deputy Commissioner conducted a thorough review of the arrangements, including security and traffic management, venue decoration and seating, public address system and ShanaiVadan, parade and cultural performances, vehicle parking, fire safety measures, barricading, refreshments for participants, power and water supply, illumination of government buildings, besides cleanliness and sanitation around the venue.
The DC directed the concerned officers to ensure that all arrangements pertaining to their respective departments are completed well in advance and as per established practice, with close coordination among all stakeholders.
The main Independence Day function is scheduled to be held at Sports Stadium, where the Chief Guest would unfurl the National Flag and take the salute at the ceremonial March Past.
The SSP directed the parade in-charge for ensuring proper practice of the contingents during rehearsals, focusing on flawless coordination and smart march during the parade. He also assured that adequate security arrangements would be put in place during the event.
The Deputy Commissioner asked all departments to work in close synergy and uphold the spirit of unity and patriotism, ensuring that Independence Day 2026 is celebrated in a grand, inclusive and seamless manner.
