Srinagar: The Union Government on Friday said it has significantly expanded AYUSH services in Jammu and Kashmir by approving 523 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Ayush), deploying hundreds of AYUSH professionals and strengthening digital healthcare initiatives as part of efforts to integrate traditional medicine into the mainstream healthcare system.
The details were shared by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav in a written reply to a question by Lok Sabha MP Sat Paul Sharma.
The Minister said mainstreaming AYUSH remains a key component of the National Health Mission (NHM), with traditional healthcare services being integrated into public health institutions across the country through co-location at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs).
In Jammu and Kashmir, 373 PHCs, 14 CHCs and 13 District Hospitals have been co-located with AYUSH facilities as of December 31, 2025.
The government informed Parliament that 453 AYUSH doctors and 353 AYUSH pharmacists have been deployed under the NHM to provide healthcare services at these institutions. Doctors have also undergone regular training in Yoga, Panchakarma, Ksharsutra and other therapies to strengthen integration with modern healthcare.
Free Ayurvedic and Unani medicines, equipment and therapy units have also been provided at co-located facilities.
Highlighting research initiatives, the Minister said the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Jammu, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, has undertaken several clinical and public health studies over the past three years, including research on benign prostatic hyperplasia, anaemia, gout, urolithiasis, tuberculosis and tribal healthcare.
The Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Srinagar, is conducting research on drug standardisation, quality control, pharmacovigilance and medicinal plants while also validating classical Unani formulations for safety and efficacy.
The government said quality control of AYUSH medicines is regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with drug testing laboratories and pharmacovigilance centres monitoring medicine quality and adverse drug reactions.
It also highlighted the launch of the Ayush Suraksha online portal in May 2025 for reporting adverse drug reactions and misleading advertisements related to AYUSH medicines.
On preventive healthcare, the Centre said the 523 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Jammu and Kashmir are promoting holistic wellness through yoga sessions, lifestyle counselling, Prakriti assessment and screening for non-communicable diseases.
According to the government, 91,518 yoga sessions have been conducted across the Union Territory, while over 3.27 lakh people have undergone Community-Based Assessment Checklist (CBAC) surveys. More than 2.09 lakh individuals were screened for diabetes, 3 lakh for hypertension and 2.35 lakh underwent Prakriti assessment.
The Minister said the Centre is implementing a long-term AYUSH Policy Roadmap aimed at strengthening education, research, digital health infrastructure, manufacturing, drug regulation and healthcare delivery to enhance the contribution of traditional medicine towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
