Srinagar : The Teaching and Non-Teaching Societies of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar have expressed gratitude to Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad following the Centre’s appointment of a regular Director for the institute after years of vacancy.
In a joint statement, the presidents of the two societies said the NIT Srinagar fraternity was “indebted” to the MP for persistently pursuing the issue with the Ministry of Education and raising it in Parliament, which they claimed helped expedite the appointment process.
The statement said the prolonged absence of a regular Director, Chairman and Registrar had affected the institute’s administrative functioning and academic development despite efforts by officiating Director Prof. B.K. Kanaujia, who was managing the institution from Jalandhar.
The societies welcomed the appointment of Prof. Anurag Misra, a faculty member at IIT Jammu, as the new Director of NIT Srinagar.
Describing Prof. Misra as an experienced academician and administrator, they expressed confidence that his leadership would ensure institutional stability, strengthen academic growth and accelerate the institute’s long-term development.
The faculty and staff also appreciated the services of Prof. Kanaujia for steering the institute during a challenging period and extended their support to the new Director in taking the institution forward.
