Labour Department Holds Awareness Programme on New Labour Codes in Srinagar

Srinagar  : The Labour Department on Thursday organised a stakeholder awareness programme in Srinagar to familiarise trade unions and other stakeholders with the provisions of the new Labour Codes and promote effective implementation of labour law refor

Representatives of trade unions from across Kashmir participated in the programme, which focused on labour rights, social security, regulatory reforms and worker welfare.

Labour Commissioner S. Charandeep Singh, in his inaugural address, said the Labour Codes aim to create a modern, transparent and worker-centric labour administration. He stressed that greater awareness among trade unions and workers is essential for the successful implementation of the new legal framework and safeguarding workers’ rights.

He said the department remains committed to strengthening institutional capacity, promoting awareness and working closely with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of labour refor He also urged trade unions to play an active role in educating workers about their rights and benefits under the new laws.

The programme was attended by Pawan Kumar Parihar, Special Secretary, Labour and Employment Department; Umesh Sharma, Additional Secretary; Masarat Hashim, Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central); and NajwanNazki, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Kashmir.

Technical sessions were conducted by Peer Zameer Ahmad, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Anantnag; Zamir Ali Ganie, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Budgam; and Waheed Ahmed, Under Secretary, Labour and Employment Department. The experts explained key provisions of the Labour Codes, including workers’ rights, employer obligations, registration procedures, compliance requirements, grievance redressal mechanisms and social security measures.

An interactive session allowed trade union representatives to seek clarifications on various provisions of the Labour Codes, with resource persons responding to practical concerns raised by participants.

Assistant Labour Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Adnan Khawaja proposed the vote of thanks, while the department reaffirmed its commitment to organising similar outreach programmes across Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen awareness and facilitate effective implementation of labour refor
