Srinagar : The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Srinagar on Thursday concluded a two-day Entrepreneurial Skill Development Programme focused on honey processing and fruit value addition.
The initiative, held from July 28 to 29 in collaboration with the JK Agro Industries Development Corporation Ltd., aimed to equip educated youth with practical skills necessary for establishing sustainable agri-based enterprises. The training encompassed various aspects of honey production, including collection, purification, quality testing, bottling, branding, and marketing, as well as techniques for canning and enhancing the value of fruits and vegetables. Dr. Shamim A. Simnani, head of KVK Srinagar, emphasized the program’s role in inspiring young individuals to create sustainable enterprises that contribute to employment generation and livelihood security. Over 50 students participated in the program, which featured hands-on training led by Dr. Haseeb Ur Rehman and technical staff from the Honey Processing Facility at Khonmoh. The sessions highlighted the significant opportunities available in honey processing and fruit preservation, including product labeling, quality control, and market linkages. Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and advocated for more entrepreneurship-focused programs, recognizing that practical skill development could reduce reliance on government jobs and promote self-employment among educated youth. The organizers reiterated their commitment to fostering value addition in agriculture and encouraging youth to explore income-generating opportunities within the agri-processing sector.
