Acting Chief Justice Leads Plantation Drive at High Court Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

Jammu : Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, on Thursday led a plantation drive at the High Court Complex, Janipur, Jammu, under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to environmental conservation.

The drive was organised in collaboration with the Jammu Forest Division and witnessed participation from Judges of the High Court, including Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Mohd. Akram Chowdhary, Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Justice Rajesh Sekhri and Justice Sanjay Parihar.

The dignitaries planted saplings of medicinal and ecologically significant tree species, including Rudraksh, Putranjiva and Sita Ashok, with the aim of promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging collective responsibility towards preserving nature.

Registrar General M.K. Sharma, officers of the High Court Registry, President of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu Nirmal Kotwal, Conservator of Forests (East Circle) Pardeep Wahule, members of the Bar Association and forest officials also participated in the programme.

On the occasion, retired Indian Forest Service officer Om Parkash Vidyarthi delivered an awareness talk on the medicinal, ecological and religious significance of the tree species planted during the drive.

Addressing the gathering, Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the crucial role of afforestation in mitigating climate change, enhancing biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance. He called for greater public participation in environmental protection to ensure a sustainable future.

Later, the Acting Chief Justice, accompanied by the High Court Judges, Jammu Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr.Devansh Yadav and senior registry officials, visited a newly constructed public utility facility near the High Court Complex developed by the Jammu Municipal Corporation.

Justice Sanjeev Kumar appreciated the civic body’s initiative to improve sanitation and public convenience and stressed the need to maintain the facility in a clean, hygienic and functional condition for the benefit of litigants, lawyers and visitors.
