CCTV footage of the accident goes viral; injured students shifted to SKIMS Soura as police launch investigation
Ganderbal, July 30: Two school-going girls were injured after a speeding car knocked them down on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway in the Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, officials said.
The injured have been identified as Maliha Afzal, daughter of Mohammad Afzal Shayir, a resident of Gulabbagh, Srinagar, presently residing at Fraw Haknar, and Suhana Khursheed, daughter of Khursheed Ahmad Baba, a resident of Fraw Haknar.
Officials said the girls were walking along the roadside when the speeding vehicle rammed into them, flinging them onto the road. The impact caused panic among commuters and local residents, who immediately rushed to their rescue and shifted them to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Gund.
After being administered first aid, both girls were referred to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, for advanced treatment. Their medical condition was not immediately available.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the accident surfaced on social media, showing the speeding car hitting the two students. The video quickly went viral, drawing widespread concern and renewed calls for stricter enforcement against reckless driving on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
Residents of the area urged the authorities to intensify traffic regulation measures, including speed monitoring and stricter action against violators, to curb accidents on the busy highway.
Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
