Srinagar, July 29: The Meteorological Centre (MeT), Srinagar on Wednesday forecast intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir till August 7, with the possibility of brief intense showers and torrential rain at isolated places, particularly in the Jammu division.

According to the MeT forecast, from July 29 to 31, most places are likely to witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers. A few areas in the Jammu division may experience brief spells of heavy to torrential rain, especially during early morning and late afternoon/evening hours. Isolated places in the Kashmir division may also receive brief intense showers.

The weather is expected to remain largely similar on August 1-2 with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places.

From August 3 to 5, the MeT has predicted light to moderate rain at many places with the possibility of heavy rain and brief torrential showers over a few districts of the Jammu division, while isolated areas in Kashmir may also witness intense showers.

On August 6-7, one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places across the Union Territory.

The MeT has also issued an advisory, warning of heavy rain and brief intense showers over a few districts of the Jammu division during the next five days.

It said torrential rain and intense showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations between July 29 and August 2.

The MeT has advised the general public, tourists, travellers and transporters to follow the advisories issued by the administration and exercise caution while travelling in vulnerable

areas.
