Residents in vulnerable and landslide-prone areas advised to avoid higher reaches; departments directed to remain on high alert
Srinagar, July 29: The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla on Wednesday issued a weather advisory after the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar, forecast widespread moderate to heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 29 to August 1, warning of possible flash floods, landslides and mudslides.
According to the advisory issued by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), residents, particularly those living in vulnerable areas such as Tangmarg, Gulmarg, Shirpora, Boniyar, Uri, Rafiabad, Kawarhama, Kunzer and the upper reaches of Baramulla tehsil, have been advised to avoid venturing near slopes, hilly terrain and higher reaches until weather conditions improve.
The administration has directed all concerned departments, including Revenue, Health, Police, SDRF, Mechanical Engineering Department (MED), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Roads and Buildings (R&B), PMGSY and KPDCL, to remain on high alert and ensure the availability of manpower and machinery at designated locations during the advisory period.
The advisory further stated that the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) and Police Control Room Baramulla will remain available round the clock to respond to any emergency, urging the public to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities in the interest of public safety.
Officials appealed to people to strictly follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas until the rainfall subsides.
