New Delhi: The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Lok Sabha, aiming to amend the existing Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, presented the Bill amidst significant opposition from members demanding discussions on police actions during recent student protests related to the NEET issue. Speaker Om Birla emphasized the importance of the Bill and called for a comprehensive discussion, urging all members to participate constructively. However, the opposition’s continued protests led to the adjournment of the House until 2:00 PM. Earlier in the session, Speaker Om Birla recognized the achievements of Indian weightlifters at the 23rd Commonwealth Games, commending their performance and that of their coaches. When the Speaker attempted to proceed with the Question Hour, he faced disruptions from opposition members regarding the police actions, which he deemed inappropriate. He warned that continued disruptions could lead to disciplinary actions against members undermining the House’s decorum. The Rajya Sabha also faced similar disruptions and was adjourned until 2:00 PM, reflecting the ongoing tensions surrounding the protests.
