Srinagar : Daytime temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir remained above normal on Monday, with the Meteorological Department predicting widespread rain and thunderstorms starting July 28. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of the Jammu division later in the week.
The maximum temperatures recorded included Srinagar at 30.8 degrees Celsius, Jammu at 35.3 degrees Celsius, and several other locations also reporting above-normal temperatures. Notably, Qazigund and Banihal recorded temperatures significantly above seasonal averages. Minimum temperatures were close to or slightly above normal, with Srinagar at 18.9 degrees Celsius and Jammu at 25.8 degrees Celsius. The forecast indicates light to moderate rain and thundershowers across the Kashmir division from July 28 to 31, with the potential for brief intense showers. In the Jammu division, light to moderate rain is expected, with heavy rainfall predicted for Udhampur and surrounding areas, particularly on July 30. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings regarding the risk of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides due to the anticipated intense rainfall, advising tourists and travelers to heed official advisories. Rain and thundershowers are expected to persist in many areas from August 1 to 2, with another spell of heavy rain likely in parts of the Jammu division from August 3 to 4.
