Injured devotees shifted to SKIMS Soura; Manoj Sinha directs officials to ensure best possible medical care
Ganderbal, July 28: At least 39 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured after a bus skidded off the road at the treacherous S-Mode stretch in the Hariganiwan area of Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, officials said.
The bus, bearing registration number AR11D/5655, reportedly lost control while negotiating the accident-prone stretch and veered off the road, triggering a major rescue operation.
Personnel of the CRPF’s 118 Battalion, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Health Department and the Civil Police jointly launched a rescue operation and evacuated the injured pilgrims from the accident site.
The injured were initially shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for first aid and were later referred to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment, officials said.
The injured pilgrims are from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, officials said, adding that no fatalities were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said he spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal and health officials to review the condition of the injured pilgrims.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said the 39 pilgrims, who were returning after the darshan of Baba Barfani, sustained injuries in the accident and are undergoing treatment at SKIMS Soura. He said he had directed health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care for the injured devotees.
“I pray to Lord Shiva for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Police have taken cognisance of the accident, while the exact cause of the mishap is being ascertained, officials added.
