Srinagar, July 25: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Saturday said the ongoing rain spell across Jammu and Kashmir is likely to continue intermittently till late afternoon before weather conditions improve thereafter.
According to the forecast issued by the MeT Centre, rain is currently occurring at many places across the Union Territory. The present wet spell is expected to persist over most parts of Kashmir division and several areas of Jammu division till late afternoon on July 25, followed by gradual improvement.
The weather office said that on July 26 and 27, many places are likely to witness one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, while a few areas of Jammu division may experience brief intense showers, particularly during the afternoon, evening and early morning hours.
For the period July 28 to 31, the MeT has forecast one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with the possibility of heavy rain or brief intense showers at a few places in Jammu division, especially during late night, morning and afternoon/evening hours.
The MeT Centre has advised that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Jammu division between July 28 and 31. It also warned of flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations during the next five days.
The weather department has urged the general public, tourists, travellers and transporters to follow advisories issued by the administration and exercise caution during the forecast period.
