Srinagar : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday reviewed the situation in rain-affected districts across Jammu and Kashmir and directed authorities to intensify rescue and relief operations in areas hit by heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides.
The Lieutenant Governor spoke with senior officials and assessed the ground situation across the Union Territory. He reviewed the ongoing relief and restoration measures being carried out by the district administrations, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), J&K Police, the Indian Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other line departments.
In a post on X, Sinha said he was briefed on the progress of rescue operations and restoration of essential services in the affected districts.
He directed all agencies to further intensify rescue operations and ensure coordinated action in vulnerable areas. The Lieutenant Governor noted that joint rescue operations are continuing in the flood-hit districts of Poonch and Rajouri, while more than 400 damaged roads in the Jammu Division have already been restored.
Sinha also instructed officials to strategically position manpower and machinery near vulnerable locations to ensure immediate response in case of emergencies. He stressed the importance of issuing timely weather advisories and appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel in high-risk areas.
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke to Deputy Commissioner Ramban regarding the tragic shooting stones incident that claimed two lives. Expressing deep grief over the loss of lives, he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
He directed the district administration to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical treatment and asked officials to extend all necessary assistance and support to the affected families.
The administration has been maintaining close monitoring of the evolving weather situation as multiple districts continue to witness the impact of heavy rains, flash floods and landslides.
