Srinagar : The Centre of Central Asian Studies (CCAS) at the University of Kashmir (KU) commenced a two-day national seminar titled ‘The Political Dimensions of India’s Foreign Policy: State, Society and Cultural-Economic Relations with Central Asia,’ in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR-NWRC).
During the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized the necessity of ongoing academic engagement in foreign policy studies, given the changing regional and global contexts. She highlighted the role of universities in fostering informed discussions on significant regional and international issues. Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, noted the strategic importance of Central Asia in India’s outlook and the value of interdisciplinary research in understanding these relationships. Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal remarked on the importance of such seminars for scholars and students to explore diverse perspectives on global affairs. Additionally, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Prof. Sabeha Mufti, called for sustained research on India’s relations with Central Asia, underscoring the role of academic institutions in producing evidence-based scholarship. The seminar features keynote lectures, research presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that delve into various facets of India’s foreign policy and its relations with Central Asia. The event also marked the release of the latest edition of ‘Central Asian Digest.’
