Satish Sharma visits Flood-Hit Rajouri, Reviews Relief Operations

Rajouri : Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, Tuesday undertook an extensive visit to the flood-affected areas of Rajouri district to assess the damage caused by the recent flash floods, review the ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures, and take stock of the restoration of essential public services.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to providing timely relief and rehabilitation to families affected by recent floods, emphasizing that all efforts will be made to restore normalcy in the impacted regions. During his visit to the severely damaged Baila Bus Stand in Rajouri, he assessed the destruction and instructed officials to evaluate losses and expedite restoration to resume public transport services swiftly. Engaging with local residents and transporters, the Minister expressed empathy for their struggles and assured them that the Government is monitoring the situation closely, pledging to address all legitimate claims of damage. He also visited a Relief and Rehabilitation Centre at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, where displaced families are receiving temporary shelter, and took the time to listen to their concerns and immediate needs. The Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri provided an update on the rescue operations and ongoing relief efforts, highlighting the comprehensive arrangements made at the relief center, including essential amenities such as food, clean water, and healthcare services. The Minister conducted a thorough review of the restoration of public services, directing relevant departments to prioritize the repair of infrastructure and ensure the continuous delivery of essential services. He stressed the necessity of coordinated disaster response among all departments to address public grievances promptly and maintain alertness in relief efforts until every affected family is rehabilitated. The Minister commended the dedication of the District Administration, Police, and other agencies for their swift actions during the crisis, noting that their efforts significantly mitigated the disaster’s impact. He reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to assist flood-affected families and ensure that relief reaches those in need without delay, with the restoration of services and rehabilitation as top priorities. Accompanying the Minister were local MLAs and senior officials who provided insights into the ongoing relief operations and measures to restore normalcy.
