Ganderbal, July 22: Police on Wednesday detained more than 100 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) during coordinated raids across central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district as part of a major operation aimed at dismantling terror support networks, officials said.
The raids were conducted simultaneously at multiple locations in the district on the basis of specific intelligence inputs and following an assessment of prevailing security concerns, they said.
The detained persons have been taken in for sustained questioning and verification to ascertain their possible involvement in activities prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory, officials said.
They said the operation was part of the district police’s continuing efforts to identify, disrupt and neutralise terror-support structures and prevent any assistance to militant outfits.
Police said the questioning of the suspects is being carried out strictly in accordance with the law.
Reiterating its commitment to maintaining peace and public order, Ganderbal Police said strict legal action would continue against anyone found involved in activities posing a threat to public safety or national security.
