Advisory says circulation of photos and videos may hinder investigation, threaten public security; legal action warned
Srinagar, July 22: The Cyber Police Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday issued a stern advisory directing media organisations and the general public not to share, publish, forward or circulate photographs and videos related to the recent terror incident in Anantnag, warning that violations would invite legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
The advisory comes amid reports that sensitive visuals linked to the incident are being circulated across social media and other digital platforms.
“It has been observed that certain media organisations and members of the public are circulating photographs and videos related to the terror incident in Anantnag,” the Cyber Police said in the advisory.
The police said the circulation of such material has the potential to hamper the ongoing investigation, compromise public security and interfere with law enforcement efforts.
Calling for responsible conduct, the Cyber Police urged all media houses, digital platforms and members of the public to exercise restraint and refrain from disseminating any visual content related to the incident.
It warned that sharing or forwarding such material could attract legal consequences under the applicable laws.
“Dissemination of such material may hamper ongoing investigations, compromise public security, and attract legal action under the relevant provisions of law. Strict action shall be taken against violators,” the advisory said.
The Cyber Police also appealed to the public to rely only on verified information issued through official channels and cooperate with the authorities by avoiding the circulation of unverified or sensitive content during the course of the investigation.
