Ganderbal : In compliance with the mandate of the National Legal Services Authority (Legal Services to Disaster Victims through Legal Services Authorities) Scheme, 2010 and in pursuance of the directions issued by the Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal conducted an on-spot visit to the cloudburst/flash flood affected area of Pehlipora, Safapora.
The visit was undertaken to assess the situation on the ground, interact with the affected families and provide necessary legal assistance in terms of the Scheme.
During the visit, the team interacted with the affected residents, who informed that during the early morning hours of 20th July, 2026, a sudden cloudburst triggered a flash flood in the locality. The floodwaters entered residential houses and nearby premises, causing considerable damage to household property, food items, agricultural produce and commercial establishments. A preliminary assessment conducted during the visit revealed that five families were affected by the incident. After due deliberation, the following losses were reported by the affected families:
The visiting team recorded the details of the affected families and apprised them of the legal assistance and support available under the NALSA (Legal Services to Disaster Victims through Legal Services Authorities) Scheme, 2010. The affected persons were assured that the District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal would take up the matter with the concerned departments to facilitate timely relief, compensation, rehabilitation benefits and other welfare measures, wherever applicable.
The affected families were further advised to preserve all relevant documents relating to the losses suffered and were assured of all possible legal assistance in the preparation and submission of claims before the competent authorities.
The Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) were directed to remain in close coordination with the District Administration and the affected families for preparation of necessary documents, submission of claims and follow-up with the concerned departments to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive the relief and assistance to which they are entitled.
The visit concluded with an assurance of continuous monitoring of the situation and extending all possible legal support to the affected families in coordination with the District Administration and other concerned authorities.
