Jammu, July 18 (UNI) At least five Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims suffered injuries on Saturday when a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident near Jakhani in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“A SUV vehicle, which was a part of the convoy heading towards Srinagar from Jammu, this morning collided with a dumper along the roadside in Jakhani area,” said police.

Police, army and paramilitary troops, who were on duty for the yatra on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, immediately swung into action and shifted the injured to the hospital.

“The condition of all five injured persons is stable,” said the police.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the situation. He spoke with Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa and medical officials, and directed for best possible medical care for the injured undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College, Udhampur.

In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur and medical officials and inquired about the health condition of Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims injured in the unfortunate road accident near Jakhani, Udhampur earlier this morning.”

“Five pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and a driver from Ganderbal sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at GMC Udhampur,” he posted, adding that senior officials have been directed to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care is provided for their swift recovery.

“I pray to Baba Barfani for the safety, well-being and smooth journey of all devotees,” he said.
