J&K Police launches High-Tech Joint Control Room in Pahalgam to boost Amarnath Yatra security

Advanced CCTV surveillance, integrated monitoring, multi-agency coordination

Srinagar: In a major technological upgrade to the security architecture of the annual Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has operationalised a state-of-the-art Joint Police Control Room (JPCR) at Pahalgam, enabling round-the-clock surveillance, seamless coordination among security agencies and faster response to any emergency during the pilgrimage.
Equipped with an advanced CCTV surveillance network and real-time monitoring systems, the newly established control room serves as the central command hub for overseeing security and managing operations along the Pahalgam axis of the Amarnath Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
The facility integrates representatives from multiple agencies, including the Army, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SDRF, NDRF, Wireless Wing and Jammu and Kashmir Police, allowing instant information sharing and coordinated decision-making under one roof.
Officials said the integrated command centre has been designed to strengthen surveillance, improve situational awareness and facilitate rapid deployment of personnel in case of any security incident, medical emergency or natural disaster along the pilgrimage route.
With live CCTV feeds from strategic locations, the control room continuously monitors pilgrim movement, traffic flow, weather conditions and security arrangements, enabling authorities to detect and respond to potential threats in real time.
The system also supports effective crowd management and assists in regulating the movement of pilgrims during peak hours, ensuring smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Officials said the establishment of the JPCR reflects the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s growing emphasis on technology-driven policing and inter-agency coordination for managing one of the country’s largest religious pilgrimages.
The command centre is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency by ensuring continuous communication between all security and emergency response agencies deployed for the yatra. It also provides a common platform for coordinated planning, intelligence sharing and emergency response, thereby reducing response time during critical situations.
The integrated control room forms a key component of the comprehensive security arrangements put in place for SANJY-2026, which has witnessed deployment of multi-layered security, advanced surveillance systems and enhanced disaster management mechanisms.
Officials said the new Joint Police Control Room will play a crucial role in ensuring that pilgrims undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra have a safe, secure and well-coordinated pilgrimage experience through continuous monitoring and rapid response capabilities.
