Srinagar, July 15 : The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the seat matrix for undergraduate (MBBS) courses, excluding Institutes of National Importance (INIs), for the academic session 2026-27, directing all medical colleges across the country to ensure admissions are made strictly against the approved intake.

In an official communication issued on July 14, the NMC said the seat matrix has been prepared on the basis of applications submitted by medical colleges in response to its public notice dated December 22, 2025. The Commission clarified that the matrix would remain subject to revision, if necessary, depending on the decisions of the Appeal Committee or any other competent authority.

The communication, issued by NMC Secretary Dr. Raghav Langer, has been addressed to Directors, Principals and Deans of all medical colleges concerned, as well as the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The NMC also enclosed a public notice issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), outlining directions for medical institutions and counselling authorities to ensure compliance during the admission process.

Emphasising transparency and regulatory compliance, the Commission instructed all medical colleges to admit students only against the seats approved for the 2026-27 academic session and urged all stakeholders to strictly follow the notified guidelines.
