Pulwama : As part of the ongoing 100-day campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Administration Pulwama, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu & Kashmir, on Monday organised a Mega Drug De-Addiction Awareness Programme at Government Degree College, Tral to educate students and the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Tral, Rafiq Ahmad Naik attended the programme as the chief guest. Among others present were Treasurer, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, G.A. Qureshi; Principal, Government Degree College Tral; Chief Medical Officer Pulwama; senior officers from various departments; social workers; faculty members; and a large gathering of students.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA appreciated the series of activities organised across the district under the ongoing campaign. He advised the youth and students to remain vigilant against the dangers of substance abuse and urged them to channel their energies towards education, sports and other constructive pursuits. He also appealed to parents to remain closely connected with their children, monitor their activities and provide timely guidance to prevent them from falling prey to drug addiction.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and the need for a coordinated and community-driven approach to eradicate the menace. They stressed the importance of sustained awareness, early intervention, counselling, rehabilitation and active participation of educational institutions, families and civil society in protecting the younger generation from substance abuse.

Medical experts, on the occasion, also conducted awareness sessions on the physical, psychological and social consequences of drug addiction. They encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyles, make informed choices and become ambassadors of a drug-free society.

Furthermore, during the programme, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Pulwama screened an awareness film highlighting the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, families and society. The audio-visual presentation highlighted the campaign’s message of awareness, prevention and community participation.
