Admin Launches Swift Response; Flood Control, Revenue Teams Rush to Spot

SDM Pahalgam Says Situation Under Close Watch, Assessment Underway

Srinagar :A cloudburst struck Nala Overa in the Pahalgam area of south Kashmir on Saturday, triggering a flash flood and prompting an immediate response from the district administration, with emergency teams rushed to the affected area to assess the situation and prevent any untoward incident.

Speaking to KNC News Agency, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Pahalgam said that the administration acted swiftly after receiving information about the cloudburst. He said the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Flood Control, along with a technical team, was immediately deputed to the site to monitor the situation and assess the impact of the flash flood.

The SDM further said that the Naib Tehsildar, Sallar, is also on the ground carrying out an assessment of the affected area to evaluate any damage and coordinate necessary relief and response measures.

As a precautionary measure, officials have shut down all 11 KV feeders from the Receiving Station Batkoot, affecting electricity supply to Awoora, Dahwatoo, Laddi and Batkoot villages. The temporary suspension of power has been ordered to ensure public safety and to facilitate emergency operations in the area.

The administration said all concerned departments, including Flood Control, Revenue and Power Development Department (PDD), have been placed on alert and are working in close coordination to monitor the evolving situation.

Officials said there were no immediate reports of any loss of life or major damage till the filing of this report, while a detailed assessment is underway. The administration has appealed to residents, particularly those living near streams and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement near the affected Nala, and strictly follow official advisories. Further updates are awaited as assessment teams continue to evaluate the situation.
