Banks urged to intensify awareness, enrolment drives for workers in unorganised sector

Srinagar :  The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), in partnership with the J&K Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee (UTLBC) and the Lead District Manager of Jammu, conducted an outreach program focused on the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) to enhance financial inclusion and social security for unorganised sector workers.

The event, held at Country Inn in Jammu, gathered senior officials from various sectors, including banks and government departments, to promote awareness and increase enrolment in the APY scheme. Ruby Vinayak Bhaosagar, Assistant General Manager of PFRDA, emphasized the necessity for increased engagement at the grassroots level to broaden the scheme’s impact, highlighting that APY offers a reliable pension option for the unorganised workforce. Syed Aadil Bashir Andrabi, Deputy General Manager of J&K UTLBC, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to implement social security initiatives effectively. Chander Mohan Bhat, Deputy General Manager of SBI, noted that the scheme’s success hinges on ongoing outreach and bank participation, while Assistant Commissioner Sania Haq Khan called for coordinated institutional actions to expand APY coverage. The program featured a comprehensive presentation by Nishant Anand from PFRDA, detailing the benefits of APY, including the guaranteed monthly pension post-retirement. Participating banks facilitated immediate enrolment for new subscribers, and discussions addressed implementation challenges and best practices. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Chandrika Parihar, Deputy General Manager and Zonal Head of J&K Bank.
