• Says “Enhanced surveillance, tighter security along Amarnath Yatra routes”
Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Friday directed security agencies to intensify anti-terror operations across Kashmir, strengthen surveillance and ensure seamless coordination to maintain a robust security grid, particularly along the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra routes.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, the DGP reviewed the overall security situation in the Valley and assessed the multi-tier security arrangements put in place for the annual pilgrimage.
According to police, senior officers briefed the DGP on the prevailing security scenario, operational preparedness and measures taken to ensure the safe and peaceful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra.
Emphasising the need for close inter-agency coordination, Prabhat directed all security forces to strengthen intelligence sharing, ensure real-time exchange of information and enhance joint operational planning to improve operational effectiveness.
The DGP instructed field formations to intensify anti-terror operations and maintain sustained pressure on terrorist networks, their associates and support structures. He also directed officers to keep a close watch on terrorist associates and anti-national elements and take timely preventive and legal action wherever required.
Highlighting the need for proactive security measures, the DGP called for enhanced area domination, intensified night patrolling and increased surveillance in vulnerable locations across the Valley to deter attempts to disrupt peace.
He also ordered the establishment of effective naka checkpoints at sensitive locations to strengthen access control, improve surveillance and facilitate the interception of suspicious movement.
Special emphasis was laid on reinforcing security along vulnerable stretches of the Amarnath Yatra routes, key transit points, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and railway infrastructure to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims and uninterrupted transport services.
The DGP further directed officers to conduct regular operational briefings for deployed personnel and intensify public awareness campaigns at base camps and transit locations by educating pilgrims about safety guidelines and precautionary measures.
He also stressed the need for sustained operational preparedness, coordinated policing and continuous vigilance to ensure peace, security and the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, including the GOC 15 Corps, Special DG Coordination, Special DG CRPF, ADGP CID, Inspector Generals of Police, senior Army commanders, Range DIGs and district SSPs from across the Kashmir Valley.
