Directs for comprehensive audit of facilities across both routes

Srinagar: Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the arrangements put in place for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra-2026 and issued directions for further strengthening the facilities and services being provided to the pilgrims to ensure the safe, smooth and hassle-free conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Civil Administration, Shrine Board, and security establishment, including Administrative Secretaries, senior officers of Police, CAPFs, BRO/BEACON, Heads of Departments, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners/SSPs of Anantnag and Ganderbal; Director Information; besides other concerned officers.
Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the Yatra, noting the extensive arrangements made in response to an unprecedented influx of pilgrims this year. The meeting involved detailed discussions on recommendations from the Chief Executive Officer of the Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, focusing on enhancing the robustness and responsiveness of arrangements for pilgrims. Key infrastructure and facility improvements were highlighted, including the complete tiling of the pilgrimage track to the Holy Cave Shrine for safety, widening narrow sections of the track and bridges to prevent overcrowding, and constructing retaining walls in landslide-prone areas. Additional measures discussed included augmenting rain shelters, installing iron barricades for queue management, and ensuring the availability of palkis and stretchers for medical emergencies. The meeting also addressed the need for essential public amenities at Yatra camps, such as adequate sanitation facilities, uninterrupted drinking water supply, and efficient medical services. The installation of digital display boards for advisories, strengthening fire safety measures, and enhancing disaster preparedness were also emphasized. Department heads provided updates on the facilities created and the progress of implementing committee recommendations. The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of continuous monitoring and directed the formation of dedicated audit teams for regular inspections along the Yatra routes to identify and rectify deficiencies. He underscored the necessity for seamless coordination among all departments to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of every pilgrim, emphasizing that there should be no delays or complacency in fulfilling these responsibilities.
