Says ‘Civil society backs NC’s statehood push; 170 representatives adopt resolution”
Srinagar|July, 8 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here on Wednesday said that National Conference is inviting all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as leaders from the INDIA bloc and other regional parties, to participate in a protest scheduled for July 20 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Talking to reporters here Omar emphasized that there is a strong consensus among Jammu and Kashmir’s civil society for the urgent restoration of statehood, as demonstrated by a recent meeting attended by approximately 170 representatives from various sectors, including religious leaders and educators. This meeting resulted in a unanimous resolution urging the Government of India to restore statehood and support the upcoming protest. Omar Abdullah while taking about staff shortages in critical sectors said that the government is actively working to fill vacancies, particularly for doctors, teachers, and lecturers. He said that the recruitment process is lengthy due to necessary verifications but assured that appointment orders are being issued. Additionally, he responded to concerns regarding the operation of 1,544 schools in Jammu and Kashmir with only one teacher, clarifying that these figures are outdated and that the government will provide updated statistics to the Assembly.
