Jammu : Flash floods triggered by heavy rainssignificantly hit the Thathri area in Jammu’s Doda district, damaging infrastructure and disrupting daily life. This incident marks the third occurrence of flash floods in the Doda and Kishtwar districts within two days, following persistent rainfall in the mountainous Chenab Valley.
Reports said that floods, triggered around 1:15 am, resulted in mudslides that affected residential and commercial properties, with reports of vehicles being buried or washed away. The Doda-Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244) was blocked due to debris, complicating rescue and restoration efforts. Officials reported no casualties or injuries, although substantial damage to government property occurred. Rescue teams are currently assessing the situation and assisting local residents. The estimated losses are significant, with the clearance of debris expected to take considerable time. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha have been in contact with local authorities to ensure prompt relief and restoration efforts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted a lack of rainfall in most areas during the day, but forecasts indicate potential for further rain and flash flood risks in the coming days, particularly in vulnerable regions. Residents are advised to remain cautious and avoid areas prone to flooding and landslides.
