Srinagar :In a major crackdown on the narcotics menace, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday destroyed a huge quantity of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances during separate disposal proceedings conducted by Anantnag and Sopore Police at the government-approved disposal facility in Lassipora, Pulwama.
The destruction was carried out after obtaining the necessary legal sanctions and in compliance with directions of the competent courts. The seized contraband was incinerated under the supervision of the respective District Drug Disposal Committees and designated officers, ensuring strict adherence to the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, the NDPS Rules, 2022, and the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures.
In Anantnag, police destroyed over 308 kilograms of contraband seized in multiple NDPS cases registered across the district. The destroyed substances included 33.431 kg of poppy straw, 23.829 kg of charas, 141.653 kg of bung boosa, 21.925 kg of ganja, 4.44 kg of cannabis powder and leaves, 11 grams of heroin, 7.007 grams of brown sugar, besides 823 bottles of Codeine Phosphate.
Sopore Police also disposed of a substantial quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances linked to multiple NDPS cases registered across the police district after completing all legal formalities.
Police said the destruction of the seized narcotics reflects its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and its continued efforts to dismantle narcotics networks while protecting society, particularly the youth, from substance abuse.
The police also appealed to the public to continue sharing credible information about drug peddling and narcotics-related activities to strengthen the fight against the drug menace.
