Srinagar : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday held separate meetings with former ministers, a young BJP leader and an athlete-cum-youth activist, during which a range of developmental, infrastructure and youth-related issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir were discussed.
Former ministers G.M. Saroori and Abdul Majeed Wani called on the Lieutenant Governor and projected several developmental demands pertaining to Doda and Kishtwar districts. They sought strengthening of healthcare infrastructure, establishment of a Government Women’s Degree College in Doda and a Government Medical College in Kishtwar, besides early construction of the Singhpora-Vailoo Tunnel and Sudhmahadev Tunnel.
The leaders also urged the Lieutenant Governor to expedite rehabilitation of families affected by cloudbursts and flash floods, sanction the Naigarh Tunnel project and promote tourism in the Chenab region. They further sought the constitution of the Chenab Hill Development Council and requested a special recruitment drive in the Jammu and Kashmir Police for local youth.
In another meeting, young BJP leader and International Affairs and United Nations Delegate from Jammu and Kashmir, Sehar Khan, called on the Lieutenant Governor and presented a comprehensive report on her recent participation in United Nations engagements and international dialogues focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report highlighted key discussions and policy recommendations aimed at promoting sustainable development.
Later, athlete and youth activist from Shopian, Junaid Shafi, also met the Lieutenant Governor and raised issues related to intensifying the fight against drug abuse in the district. He urged stronger measures to tackle the growing menace of narcotics and strengthen awareness and enforcement efforts.
The meetings formed part of the Lieutenant Governor’s continued outreach with public representatives and youth to discuss developmental priorities and issues of public importance across the Union Territory.
