Jammu, July 7 (UNI) Several houses and vehicles were reportedly damaged after flash floods and mudslides triggered by a cloudburst wreaked havoc in the Thathri area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said on Tuesday that a cloudburst struck Thathri town during the early hours at around 2:30 a.m., triggering flash floods that caused widespread destruction in the area.
“As per reports, the Thathri market has suffered extensive damage, with several houses buried under boulders, mud and debris. Several vehicles were also reportedly damaged or washed away,” they said.
“The exact extent of the damage is being ascertained,” the sources said, adding that there were no reports of any injuries or loss of life in the incident.
“Mud, water and debris entered many houses, leaving residents struggling to clear the wreckage,” they said, adding that several families were forced to remain on the roads.
Officials said vehicular movement on the Doda-Kishtwar National Highway has been disrupted due to the heavy accumulation of mud and debris.
“The aftermath of the incident is being closely monitored, and teams of administrative officials along with police personnel are on the spot assessing the situation,” they added.
Earlier, cloudbursts struck the Bhalessa area of Doda district and near the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar district.
