Srinagar: Srinagar Police on Saturday dismissed as “completely false” reports circulating on social media claiming that buses carrying pilgrims for the annual Amarnath Yatra were attacked and set on fire near Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

In an official statement, the police clarified that no such incident had taken place and termed the viral claims as baseless and misleading. “It has come to the notice of Srinagar Police that false and misleading information is being circulated on social media platforms claiming that buses carrying pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra were attacked and caught fire near Lal Chowk, Srinagar. This claim is entirely false and no such incident has taken place,” the statement said.

Police further said that the viral video being shared in connection with the Amarnath Yatra is unrelated to the pilgrimage and has been falsely linked to it to spread misinformation. The public has been urged not to create, circulate, or share unverified content that could cause panic, disturb public order, or mislead people. Srinagar Police warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found creating, sharing, or reposting false information in violation of the applicable laws. The advisory comes as thousands of pilgrims are undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra under elaborate security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir.
