New Delhi| The Union Home Ministry on Saturday designated 23 Pakistan-based individuals as terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), including close associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and operatives linked to LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
The ministry said the individuals were involved in terror attacks, cross-border infiltration, drone-based arms smuggling, recruitment and radicalisation through social media, and terror financing. With the latest additions, the number of individuals designated as terrorists under the UAPA has risen to 80.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said 17 of the newly designated terrorists are Pakistani nationals and six are Indian nationals, but all are currently operating from Pakistan or Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The government said the move would help agencies freeze assets, block finances and strengthen action against terror networks.
