Srinagar, July 4: Srinagar Police on Saturday dismissed as false and misleading the reports circulating on social media claiming that buses carrying pilgrims for the annual Amarnath Yatra were attacked and caught fire near Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
According to a post shared by Srinagar Police on X, No such incident has taken place and the viral video being circulated has been falsely linked to the Amarnath Yatra.
Police said the video is unrelated to the pilgrimage and urged the public not to create, circulate or share unverified and misleading content that could cause panic, disturb public order or spread misinformation.
The advisory warned that strict legal action would be initiated against individuals found creating, sharing or reposting false information in violation of applicable laws.
Srinagar Police also appealed to citizens to rely only on information issued through official government and law enforcement channels and to verify facts before forwarding or sharing any content on social media.
