Indus Waters Treaty remains suspended, Pak must renounce support to cross: India

New Delhi: External Affairs Ministry on Friday reiterated that the Indus Waters Treaty IWT remains in abeyance in response to Islamabad’s continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal said India’s position on the Indus Waters Treaty is consistent. He said, Pakistan must credibly and irrevocably renounce its support for cross-border terrorism.
On Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project, Mr Jaiswal said, India’s development assistance for projects in Bangladesh is based on a mutually agreed roadmap that is regularly reviewed. He said, India’s views on the Teesta River project have already been conveyed to the Bangladeshi side. The MEA Spokesperson said, India will factor in all related developments in its overall approach to the Teesta issue.
Responding to media queries on reports alleging that the vital organs of an Indian seafarer, whose body was brought back from Venezuela, had been removed, Mr Jaiswal said, India has taken up the matter with the Venezuelan authorities and has requested them to investigate it urgently.
