Sanskrit promotion, houseboat welfare, anti-drug initiatives highlighted in separate meetings
Srinagar: Several delegations on Thursday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and discussed a range of issues related to cultural preservation, heritage conservation and social welfare in Jammu & Kashmir.
Mahant Rohit Shastri, President of Kailakh Jyotish and Vedic Sansthan Trust, met the Lieutenant Governor and discussed matters concerning the preservation and promotion of Sanskrit language and Vedic studies in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Shastri expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for the creation of Sanskrit faculty posts at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, calling it a significant step towards strengthening traditional learning and Sanskrit studies.
In another meeting, a delegation of the All Kashmir House-Boat Owners Association, led by Chairman Manzoor Pakhtoon, raised several issues concerning stakeholders of the houseboat sector.
The delegation highlighted concerns regarding the welfare of houseboat owners operating on the Jhelum River, sought recognition of Kashmir houseboats as a heritage asset, and demanded a dedicated houseboat information and booking counter at Srinagar Railway Station.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Gandhi Global Family Kashmir, led by its J&K President Dr S.P. Varma, also called on the Lieutenant Governor and appreciated the impact of the ongoing NashaMukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan in tackling substance abuse.
The Lieutenant Governor appreciated the organisation’s social initiatives and urged members to continue their efforts towards promoting peace, communal harmony, environmental conservation, and the empowerment of youth and women in the Union Territory.
