Srinagar, July 4: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed gratitude to the Union Government for suspending the proposed runway closure at Srinagar Airport, saying the decision would ensure uninterrupted air connectivity and prevent inconvenience to passengers and the tourism sector.
In a post on X, Omar Abdullah thanked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for accepting the J&K government’s request to suspend the airport closure order.
“I am grateful to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for acceding to our request and suspending the airport closure order. This closure had created a lot of difficulties for regular travellers and forced tour groups and tourists to cancel planned visits,” the Chief Minister said.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, Omar Abdullah had personally taken up the matter with the Government of India to safeguard the interests of passengers, the tourism sector, trade, and the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
The statement said the decision would ensure uninterrupted air connectivity to the region and prevent disruption to travel, tourism and economic activity.
