G’bal: The death of a 35-year-old woman, who was found hanging at her residence in the Waliwar area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, has taken a new turn after her son and members of her maternal family alleged that her husband was responsible for her death, prompting police to widen their investigation.
The woman was found hanging inside her residence on Thursday morning. Acting on the information, police rushed to the spot, took possession of the body and initiated inquest proceedings. The body was subsequently shifted for post-mortem examination and other medico-legal formalities.
Following the incident, the deceased’s son and members of her maternal family alleged that the husband had a role in her death. They demanded his immediate arrest and sought a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation to ensure that the truth behind the incident is established.
The allegations could not be independently verified. Police have taken cognisance of the allegations and said all aspects of the case are being examined. Investigators are recording statements of family members and other concerned persons, while collecting evidence to ascertain the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
Officials said the exact cause and manner of death will be determined only after the completion of the investigation and receipt of the post-mortem and other forensic and medico-legal reports. They added that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
