  • Annual action plan for 2026–27 focuses on climate-resilient, sustainable agriculture

  • Ganai stresses urban farming, Dal vegetable cultivation, and value addition

Anantnag : The 22nd Annual Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Srinagar was on Tuesday held at KVK Budgam, chaired by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir.

The meeting was attended among others by Prof. Raihana Habib and Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, who were invited as Guests of Honour, alongside various stakeholders from agriculture and allied sectors, including farmers and representatives from Farmer Producer Organizations. The primary focus of the meeting was to review the Action Taken Report (ATR) and assess the annual progress from the previous year while finalizing the Annual Action Plan for 2026–27. This plan emphasizes technology assessment, frontline demonstrations, capacity building, and the dissemination of sustainable agricultural technologies. Prof. Ganai highlighted the importance of urban agriculture and enhancing Dal vegetable cultivation to improve the economic security of farming communities, as well as the need to minimize post-harvest losses through skill development in value addition and processing. Dr. S. A. Simnani presented the ATR for 2025–26, detailing the Kendra’s achievements and initiatives in outreach, skill development, and technology dissemination. He also outlined the strategic priorities for the upcoming year, aligning them with the needs of farmers and national agricultural goals. A publication on paddy production technology was released during the meeting. In her closing remarks, Prof. Raihana Habib commended KVK Srinagar for its effective extension services and significant contributions to sustainable agriculture and farmer livelihoods.
