Baramulla : Department of Psychology, Government Degree College, Baramulla, organized a one-day seminar on “Cyber Security” on June 30, 2026. The seminar was conducted as part of the Cyber Psychology course taught at the Honours/Honours with Research level, with the aim of increasing students’ awareness of cybersecurity, online safety, and the psychological aspects of human behaviour in the digital world.
The programme was attended by UG Honours Psychology students, PG Psychology students, and faculty members of the Department of Psychology. It provided an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about cyber threats, digital privacy, cybercrime, responsible online behaviour, and measures for ensuring safety in cyberspace.
The seminar began with a welcome address by Dr. Kaiser Ahmad Dar, Head, Department of Psychology, GDC Baramulla who highlighted the increasing importance of cybersecurity in everyday life. He emphasized the need to understand the psychological factors associated with online behaviour and cyber risks. He also welcomed the resource person and encouraged students to actively participate in the session.
The expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Nisar Iqbal Wani, Head of the Department of Computer Applications, GDC Baramulla who discussed various aspects of cybersecurity, including phishing attacks, identity theft, social engineering, online fraud, password security, data protection, digital footprints, and safe internet practices. He also explained how psychological factors influence online behaviour and contribute to cyber victimization, helping students understand the close connection between psychology and cybersecurity.
The lecture was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session. Students actively participated and raised questions related to cybercrime, cyberbullying, digital ethics, social media safety, and career opportunities in the field of cybersecurity. The expert responded to the queries in a clear and comprehensive manner, making the session engaging and informative.
