Ashoora Procession: Traffic Curbs, Diversions Announced in Srinagar
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegramEmail

Srinagar, June 25 : Authorities on Thursday issued a detailed traffic advisory for Srinagar city ahead of the Youm-i-Ashoora observance on Friday, with several routes being diverted or restricted to facilitate the smooth conduct of the traditional Zuljinah procession from Bota Kadal to Imam Bara Zadibal.

The advisory, issued by the Srinagar Traffic Police, said vehicular movement towards Zadibal from different parts of the city will be diverted at key junctions, including Firdous Cinema, Mill Stop, Lal Bazar and Bota Kadal, as the procession passes through the area.

Motorists intending to travel towards Hawal have been advised to take the route via Firdous Cinema, Ali Masjid and Sazgaripora. Vehicles coming from Karan Nagar and Nallamar towards Soura will be allowed only through Ali Jan Road, while no right turn towards Sazgaripora will be permitted at Ali Masjid.

Traffic from Kalai Andhar towards Zadibal will not be allowed through Firdous Cinema and will instead be diverted towards Sazgaripora or Nowhatta. Similarly, vehicles approaching from Soura will not be permitted to proceed towards Zadibal beyond Nallabal and have been advised to take alternate routes via Zoonimar and Awantibhawan Road.

The advisory also said that motorists coming from Lal Bazar will not be allowed to move towards Bota Kadal and should use Mallabagh and other interior roads to reach Soura and adjoining areas.

Traffic Police appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel in and around the procession route and urged commuters to follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed on the ground.

The restrictions have been put in place to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Ashoora procession and to maintain smooth traffic flow across the city, officials said.
