Demands answers on Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s death, seeks declassification of 1947 tribal invasion records
New Delhi: BJP National General Secretary and MP Tarun Chugh on Tuesday reiterated the Centre’s commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise will be honored.
Speaking on the 73rd death anniversary of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Chugh demanded the declassification of records surrounding Mookerjee’s 1953 custody death. “The promise has been made, and it will be fulfilled,” Chugh said, adding that “The country deserves to know the truth.”
Chugh also called for opening government archives regarding the 1947 tribal invasion of J&K to document the widespread atrocities faced by all communities. He maintained that the BJP holds a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and highlighted J&K’s ongoing transformation through peaceful development, global engagement like the G20 meet, and major infrastructure projects like the Zojila Tunnel and Chenab Railway Bridge.
Dismissing negative narratives, Chugh invited tourists to experience the region firsthand, concluding, “Do not be misled by negative narratives. Come and see Jammu and Kashmir for yourself. This is a land of peace, hospitality and progress.”
