Officers told to maintain vigilance, ensure seamless coordination and devotee assistance

Srinagar : Ahead of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra-2026, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, on Friday directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance, strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and a people-friendly approach to ensure a peaceful and incident-free pilgrimage.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting, IGP Birdi emphasized the need for robust coordination among all security and civil agencies deployed along the Yatra routes. He instructed officers to remain fully prepared to tackle any security or logistical challenges during the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including DIG Central Kashmir Range Srinagar, DIG South Kashmir Range Anantnag, DIG Armed Kashmir, SSP PCR Kashmir, Zonal Officers, Sector Officers and other senior officers associated with Yatra arrangements.
According to officials, the IGP directed Zonal Officers to conduct regular briefings of Sector Officers and personnel on the ground to ensure all ranks remain updated about their responsibilities and the prevailing security scenario. He stressed continuous supervision and real-time communication at every level of deployment.
IGP Birdi also called for close coordination with sister agencies to strengthen intelligence-sharing and joint response mechanisms, saying seamless operational coordination would be critical for effective management during the Yatra period.
Highlighting the public service dimension of policing during the pilgrimage, the IGP instructed officers and personnel to extend every possible assistance to devotees, with special focus on safety, convenience and welfare.
He reiterated that while security remains paramount, officers must adopt a people-friendly approach in dealing with pilgrims and the public.
The meeting concluded with a detailed review of security arrangements, coordination protocols and contingency measures aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra-2026 without any disruption.
