Lt Gen Pratik Sharma assesses preparedness at Pahalgam, Chandanwari
Srinagar: Ahead of the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Northern Army Commander Pratik Sharma on Thursday conducted a comprehensive review of security arrangements along the southern pilgrimage route, visiting key transit points at Pahalgam and Chandanwari.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sharma assessed the prevailing security scenario and operational readiness of forces deployed to secure the pilgrimage corridor, with a focus on threat preparedness, area domination, and coordination among agencies.
Officials said the review covered security deployment patterns, surveillance mechanisms, and contingency response measures established to ensure smooth movement of pilgrims along the route.
The visit assumes significance as security agencies have intensified preparations for the annual pilgrimage amid heightened vigilance across the Kashmir Valley.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Northern Command said the Army Commander reviewed the security environment and operational preparedness to ensure robust protection for devotees.
“The Indian Army remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure pilgrimage for all devotees through seamless coordination with stakeholders, vigilant security measures and comprehensive preparedness,” the statement said.
The Army reiterated that multi-layered security arrangements are being strengthened in coordination with civil administration, police, and other security agencies to safeguard the yatra.
The annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine is scheduled to begin next month, with authorities undertaking extensive logistical and security preparations to ensure its smooth and incident-free conduct.
