Baramulla  :Department of Sheep Husbandry Baramulla organized an Exposure Visit-cum-Kisan Gosthi for 32 progressive sheep and goat breeders under the ATMA/SAME programme at IGFRI Rangreth, Srinagar.

The farmers were flagged off from the District Sheep Husbandry Office, Baramulla and were exposed to modern fodder production technologies, scientific livestock management practices, and research activities at IGFRI. Scientists briefed participants on high-yielding perennial fodder varieties, multi-cut fodders, and their role in improving livestock productivity.

The delegation also visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH), Srinagar, where experts highlighted sustainable farming practices, judicious fertilizer use, and eco-friendly alternatives to chemical inputs. Scientists described sheep manure as “Black Gold” due to its rich nutrient value and importance in enhancing soil health.

The programme also featured awareness sessions on the One Health concept, emphasizing the link between animal, human, and environmental health. Participating farmers appreciated the initiative and called for more such exposure visits to enhance their knowledge of modern scientific farming practices.
