Ganderbal, June 15: A search and rescue operation was launched on Monday by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after two persons were suspected to have drowned in a power canal at Gund-21 near Ramawari in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
According to officials, SDRF teams from Gund and Ganderbal were immediately pressed into service after receiving information about the incident. Rescue personnel reached the spot and launched an extensive search operation in the canal to trace the missing individuals.
Officials said efforts were underway and specialized rescue teams were combing the area to locate the suspected victims. The operation was continuing till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged people to stay away from the canal and avoid gathering near the rescue site to facilitate smooth conduct of the operation.
