SKUAST-Kashmir Reaches Farmers’ Doorsteps with Organic Technologies for Healthy Soil, Regenerative

Baramulla,:A one-day Awareness-cum-Training Programme was organized at Village Kitardaji, DangiWacha Baramulla under HADP-16 (Alternate System of Agriculture for Sustainability), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture. The programme focused on promoting organic farming standards for healthy soil management and regenerative agriculture.

The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices, emphasizing the importance of soil health, biodiversity conservation, efficient resource utilization, and the promotion of indigenous red rice cultivation through organic methods.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Raies Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Professor of Agronomy, highlighted the significance of alternative agricultural systems in enhancing farm productivity while conserving natural resources for future generations. He stressed that healthy soils form the foundation of sustainable agriculture and long-term food security.

Dr. Raies Ahmad Bhat also elaborated on scientific approaches to organic red rice cultivation, organic nutrient management, and soil fertility enhancement. He encouraged farmers to adopt regenerative agricultural practices to improve crop quality, enhance soil health, and promote environmental sustainability while strengthening Red Rice Clusters through sustainable cultivation practices.

Bilal Ahmad Mir, AEO DangiWacha, highlighted the significance of the Red Rice Cluster initiative in preserving indigenous crop varieties and strengthening farmers’ livelihoods. He reiterated the commitment of the Department of Agriculture to supporting farmers in adopting organic and regenerative farming practices under HADP-16.

Dr. ShayistaFayaz,  Suhail Shameem Malik, ShafiyaFayaz  explained participants about JK Gove HADP Sponsored Programme Viz KissanSathi portal and other online services. Entrepreneurship opportunities available in HADP – Alternate Systemof Agriculture were also deliberated with participants. Further Technological inputs like biofertilizers, Biopesticides and Pamphlets depicting usage were distributed among farmers

The programme featured technical sessions on organic farming standards, composting, soil health management and quality produce. Farmers actively participated in the discussions and expressed keen interest in adopting sustainable farming practices on their farms.
