Ganderbal | June, 10:Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ganderbal on Wednesday convened its 22nd Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting at the Kendra campus Shuhama.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai and was attended by Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof Raihana Habib Kanth, KVK scientists, district heads of line departments, agri-entrepreneurs, and progressive farmers to deliberate on scientific interventions and future strategies for strengthening the agricultural sector in the district.

Prof Ganai highlighted the Kendra’s growing role in promoting region-specific agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship. Interacting with progressive farmers and agri-preneurs, he urged them to dive into agriculture, agri-preneurship, and post-harvest value as there are end number of opportunities.

Prof Raihana Habib Kanth emphasized the need to transform traditional farming into a commercially sustainable enterprise. She urged scientists to intensify skill development programs, promote low-cost organic farming solutions, and develop specialized training modules aimed at enhancing farmers’ capacities and livelihoods across the Union Territory.

Dr Ajaz Ahmed Malik, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal delivered a detailed presentation on the Action Taken Report, Annual Progress Report, and newly launched initiatives of the centre.

On the occasion, Vice Chancellor inaugurated several newly established facilities at the KVK, including a Food Technology Laboratory, a High-Density Pear Orchard, Diversified Stone Fruit Block, Cucurbitaceae Crop Cafeteria, and the “Sindh Greens” Urban Kitchen Garden initiative.
