Srinagar | June, 10: Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, Wednesday  congratulated the 223 outstanding sportspersons who have been selected for appointment to government services under the sports quota.

The Minister said  that a total of 223 exceptional athletes have been selected for government employment under the sports quota, reflecting the administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding sporting excellence. This recruitment he said is seen as a landmark achievement in promoting sports and empowering youth, providing meaningful career opportunities for talented individuals beyond their athletic pursuits. The Minister expressed gratitude to Chief Minister for his support in enhancing the sports ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. A formal ceremony will be held to present appointment orders to the selected candidates, celebrating their accomplishments and the pride of their families. Sharma emphasized that this initiative not only acknowledges the dedication and sacrifices of young athletes but also sends a strong message that excellence in sports will be respected and supported by the government. The government, under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership, is adopting a comprehensive approach to sports development, focusing on infrastructure, competitive excellence, and the social and economic security of athletes. The Minister highlighted the importance of sports as a vehicle for youth engagement and social transformation, encouraging young people to pursue sports with confidence. Various initiatives are underway to enhance the sports landscape in the Union Territory, including upgrading infrastructure, developing training facilities, organizing competitive events, and promoting grassroots talent identification. The government aims to create an environment where talented sportspersons can thrive through institutional support and professional coaching. The recruitment under the sports quota fulfills a long-standing aspiration for many athletes, providing them with financial stability and career security. It is expected to inspire aspiring sportspersons across Jammu and Kashmir to take sports seriously. The Minister called for collaboration among educational institutions, sports associations, coaches, and parents to nurture talent and foster a culture of excellence. Sharma reiterated the government’s vision of making Jammu and Kashmir a hub of sporting excellence, highlighting that sports have evolved into a dynamic sector offering various opportunities. The success of the selected athletes is viewed as a collective achievement for the entire sporting community, inspiring future generations to strive for greatness and contribute to the region’s progress.
